The Black Keys plus The Whigs
The Orange Peel, Asheville NC on September 14, 2010 @ 9:00PM Sponsored By The Orange Peel The Akron, Ohio-based duo The Black Keys is well known for its concentrated, hermetic approach to recording, hunkering down with rudimentary equipment in an unfinished basement or commandeering the floor of a vacant local rubber factory to create terse but soulful rock that seems to have time-traveled into the pair's amps from some long-ago radio show. But guitarist-vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney now admit they were ready for a change of scene-as well as some company. So when they got the opportunity to work with Grammy Award-nominated producer-musician-provocateur Danger Mouse, a/k/a Brian Burton (Gnarls Barkley, Gorillaz, The Grey Album), they agreed, for the first time, to leave their familiar environs. Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers & ZZ Top
Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre Charlotte, NC on September 19, 2010 @ 7:30PM Sponsored By Livenation Most recently, at a time when many of their contemporaries have long since grown complacent, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have in 2002 released one of their finest and most controversial efforts - featuring some of Petty’s most moving songs. Recorded both before and following the group’s 2002 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, “The Last DJ”, reflected Petty’s strong views about the state of the music business and the culture generally. With the departure of Howie Epstein, “The Last DJ” marked another notable return: after two decades away, founding Heartbreaker Ron Blair returned to the band’s rhythm section. On “The Last DJ”, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers salute the album’s title charter as “the last human voice”. And while one dearly hopes Petty won’t be the last such voice, he remains one of music’s most compelling and most human voices. ZZ Top is an American blues rock band formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. The band members are Billy Gibbons (vocals and guitar), Dusty Hill (bass guitar and vocals), and Frank Beard (drums). They hold the distinction of being one of the few rock bands still comprising its original members for nearly 40 years, and until 2006, with the same manager/producer, Bill Ham. They reached the peak of their commercial success in the 1970s and 1980s, scoring many hit songs during that era; but they remain together today and are still touring and releasing albums. ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 2004. Summarizing their music, Cub Koda wrote, “As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America’s finest blues guitarists working in the arena rock idiom … while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support.”[1] Their song lyrics often feature sexual innuendo and humor. Jimmy Eat World plus Civil Twilight
The Orange Peel, Asheville NC on September 22, 2010 @ 9:00PM Sponsored By The Orange Peel Once a trailblazing name in the mid-'90s emocore scene, Jimmy Eat World steadily rose to national prominence by embracing a blend of alternative rock and power pop that targeted the heart as well as the head. While the band's influence widened considerably with 1999's Clarity -- an album that has since emerged as a landmark of the emo genre -- it was the band's self-produced follow-up (specifically the infectious single "The Middle") that crowned them as major figures in commercial rock. The emo label proved difficult to shake throughout the 2000s, even when subsequent albums Futures andChase This Light did little to evoke the hard-edged sensitivity of Clarity, but Jimmy Eat World nevertheless remained a league above the generation of emocore torch-bearers they'd helped influence. Bullet For My Valentine with Escape the Fate
The Fillmore Charlotte, NC on September 24, 2010 @ 7:00PM Sponsored By Livenation Bullet for My Valentine are a metalcore band from Bridgend, formed in 1998. The band is composed of Matt Tuck (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Michael Paget (lead guitar), Jason James (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Michael Thomas (drums). They were formed under the name Jeff Killed John and started their music career by covering songs by Metallica and Nirvana. Jeff Killed John recorded six songs which were not released; two of these tracks were reworked later in their career as Bullet for My Valentine. Financial difficulties dictated the name change, which was followed by a change in music direction. In 2002, the band secured a five-album deal with Sony BMG. The band has stated that their music is influenced by classic heavy metal acts such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Slayer. The band is part of the Cardiff music scene. Escape the Fate is an American post-hardcore band from Las Vegas, Nevada formed in Pahrump, Nevada in 2004. Their debut full-length album, Dying Is Your Latest Fashion, was released on September 26, 2006. Their second full-length album, This War Is Ours was released on October 21, 2008. To date the band has released two full-length studio albums, three EPs, and six music videos and consists of , Craig Mabbitt (vocals), Max Green (bass), Bryan Money (guitars) and Robert Ortiz (drums). They are currently working on a new album that they say will be much heavier than This War is Ours, like Dying is Your Latest Fashion, but with more screaming. Posted By: Livenation |

Eric Church
Roadrunner Mobile Amphitheatre Charlotte, NC on September 25, 2010 @ 7:00PM Sponsored By Livenation Eric Church is a country music singer and songwriter. Eric grew up in Granite Falls, N.C., in an area known as one of the world’s furniture capitals. He recalls being 4 years old, standing on a table at a local restaurant, singing “Elvira” to a waitress and a handful of patrons who would reward him with change. He was 13 when he started writing songs, and he bought a cheap, hard-to-tune guitar and taught himself to play, influenced by his parents’ eclectic tastes, which stretched from Motown to bluegrass. The Hold Steady
The Orange Peel Asheville, NC on September 28, 2010 @ 8:00PM Sponsored By The Orange Peel The Hold Steady recently put the finishing touches on 'Heaven Is Whenever,' their new album set for release May 4th on Vagrant Records and May 3rd on Rough Trade in the UK and EU. The album was produced by Dean Baltulonis, who engineered the band's 'Almost Killed Me' and produced 'Separation Sunday,' and was recorded at Dreamland Recording Studios in Upstate NY and Wild Arctic Studios in Queens, NY, with mixing also happening at Wild Arctic. Singer Craig Finn says 'Heaven Is Whenever' is about "embracing suffering and finding reward in our everyday lives." Piano and keys take a backseat to guitar on the new record, which also gets production help from guitarist Tad Kubler. Recorded in several smaller sessions spread out over a long period of time, the songs on 'Heaven Is Whenever' received the benefit of being tested on the band's recent tours. As Finn says this allowed them to "see what was working and what wasn't. I believe this record benefits from us working at a more deliberate pace." Posted By: Promotions |
